Student Materials: Please bring the following: -Water bottle -Closed-toe, leather work shoes -Cotton clothing; long pants/no cuff -Safety glasses* -Ear protection* -Particulate respirator or N95 mask* (optional) -Leather apron & gloves (optional) -Sketchbook/notebook (optional) -Personal tools, if desired * The school has generic ear plugs and safety glasses available to borrow. However, you are encouraged to bring your own high-quality, well-fitting ear and eye protection. The Blacksmith Shop also sells safety glasses and N95 masks if needed.

Make your own, custom hammers you can use for a lifetime! In this intensive workshop students will be guided through making different sizes and styles of blacksmith, forging hammers. Forging, grinding, and heat treating of hammers, and the shaping and fit-up of your own hammer handles will be covered. Expect lots of striking with sledgehammers, power hammer forging, and long days in the shop. Intermediate to advanced students welcome. $

Anna Koplik graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY with a BFA in jewelry and has worked as a blacksmith at Peters Valley School of Craft, Atlas Forge, Touchstone Center for Crafts, Spirit Ironworks, Center for Metal Arts, Davis Metalsmiths, Caleb Kullman Studio, and MDO Welding and Fabrication. She travels often, working as a journeyman architectural smith, teaching blacksmithing workshops, and camping and hiking whenever possible. She has a passion for educating and showing beginner smiths the many different possibilities blacksmithing has to offer. Her personal work focuses mainly on tool and utensil making, combining functionality with a refined, delicate aesthetic.
